The Great Indian Desert is the Thar Desert. It is spread over in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat, (and also two states in Pakistan). It covers an area of about 4,46,000 Sq KM. This desert can be utilized for our National development. And at the same time we can increase the vegetation and civilization in the desert. With the help of the power, we can also extract the drinking water from the deserts humidity in the atmosphere for the benefit of the people living in the desert. If we plan in a constructive way we can make utilization of the desert for the development of our Nation in a number of ways. For example to install 1000 Megawatt power plant it needs only 40 sq Km of desert land. i.e., 6.32 km length and 6.32 Km breadth of the desert’s waste land. Kindly remember we have 4.46,000 Sq.KM of desert land.

The Thar area has a tropical desert climate. April, May and June are the hottest during the day. The average maximum and minimum temperatures during this period remain 41 centigrade to 24 centigrade respectively. December, January and February are the coldest months with average maximum and minimum temperatures 28 centigrade to 9 centigrade respectively with heavy winds. Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Without polluting the nature we can convert and extract the power for our National development from the useless land.

In general the deserts are non-productive. Hence we can use those deserts for our country in producing the Solar and Wind electricity. The power generated can be utilized all over the country and also if we take sufficient measures we can supply to entire India and also to the nearby countries. This will give maximum benefits to our country. For installing the solar power plants – the public sector companies and the private companies or individuals can come forward. They can build the investments very easily by inviting as shares or deposits from the public.
